Get away from the main roads, hop on a bike, and ride some of the most fun mountain bike trails in the country.

An exciting and rewarding way to see the beautiful countryside, mountain biking opens the door to a world of possibilities. As you venture deeper into nature you will gain access to spots often too remote for the casual visitor.

A treat for the eyes and a great workout for the body, mountain biking offers you a dynamic cardio tour of the Tararua District.

Stay fit and enjoy the inspiring scenery New Zealand has to offer.

If you are after trail advice, our friends at the
Pahiatua Information Centre are more than happy to help.

Alternatively, if you want to keep on your feet, our bush walks are a tramper's dream. Find out more about walking tracks in the Tararua District

The Department of Conservation also provides a good list of tramps in the Wairarapa region

Talk to any passionate fisher(wo)man and you'll discover October is a special time of the year.

Although good fishing is available year round, the fish become more active during the spring season. This means they begin feeding more as they need to put on weight after the lean winter months.

October is also particularly special for our town as this is when we hold our annual Pahiatua Trout Fishing Festival. Filled with competitions and celebrations, our festival is truly an experience for fishing fanatics around the country as our rivers are renowned for containing the best brown trout in New Zealand.
